7 Insane Things You Didn't Know About Doctor Who

Learn some truly amazing Doctor Who facts and in-depth knowledge to blow wide your knowledge of all things Who.

  1.  This is what Madam Vastra looks like without makeup.
  2. The Silence were originally priests for naked people. The rulers of the mankind, and probably many other species, originally were just there to hear your confessions. In the season 6 special ‘The Time of the Doctor’ The Doctor and Clara are in the Papal Mainframe (a church where you are not allowed to wear clothes) and a naked Clara asks “What are those things?” to which the naked Doctor replies “Professional priests, very popular, genetically engineered so you forget everything you tell them.” Mind you, they had holographic projections of clothes on.
  3. Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who. During the filming of the latest relaunch of the Doctor Who series things were kept secret and all the tapes were named Torchwood so no one would know the show was back in production. It just turned out to be a cool name and was used later as a spinoff show.
  4. The Doctor originally lived in a junkyard. The very first episode deals with thediscovery of the Doctor and his time-space ship TARDIS in a junkyard.
  5. Caitlin Blackwood, who played the young Amelia Pond, is Karen Gillan's real life cousin. They met for the first time on set for a read-through. Caitlin was born in Northern Ireland and Karen in Scotland.
  6. Peter Capaldi was invited to audition for the role of the Eighth Doctor in 1995, the role ultimately went to Paul McGann. Capaldi never went to the audition because he didn’t think he would get the part.
  7. We almost never had a robot dog that went by the name K-9, his original name was FIDO, standing for Phenomenal Indication Data Observation.
